(Menomonie, WI) - The Third District Republican Party Chairman Dennis Shaw and Vice Chairman Gary Arneson today released a list of 15 questions they are encouraging the media and public to ask Rep. Ron Kind (D-La Crosse).
"Our incumbent congressman will not address the issues; we suspect because he cannot give an answer to the public without revealing information that would cause voters to question their support for him!" stated Shaw.
Rep. Kind did not debate his 1998 opponent. He did start to debate his year 2000 opponent, but after being asked some questions that were too tough for him to answer, he stopped showing up and eventually canceled any debates or forums. This election year, the Third District Republican Party Leaders have been calling on him to explain some things, as has the 2002 Republican candidate for Congress, Bill Arndt. Yet, Kind has chosen to again ignore the tough questions in favor of a strategy of staying only with his message.
"This is a professional politician trick," Arneson said. "And, this is an old lawyer trick. Unfortunately for the voting public the incumbent Congressman is both!"
Kind is hoping that if he says nothing about his possible direct involvement in the caucus scandal, it will go away. He is calculating that if he says nothing about his "flip-flops" on issues like partial-birth abortion, that no one will notice the inconsistencies and both sides of the issue will continue to vote for him. Ron Kind is scheming that if he never addresses his spending proposals, voters will believe the Democrat front-groups that give him awards for supposedly saving taxpayer earnings. He is laughing that while voting against bills the public cares about, such as elimination of the Marriage Tax Penalty, that voters will only read the headlines of his carefully worded press releases and believe he actually supported the majority of public opinion. And, if Rep. Kind never talks about his thirst for raking in campaign cash from anyone and every special interest group, that voters will only remember that he talks about the need for campaign finance reform.
"Talk is cheap, but in the end our Congressman is ultimately answerable to the public," said Shaw. "If he will not answer the questions put to him by us, and he will not answer questions from candidate Bill Arndt, we present the questions to the press and voting public to ask him."
Shaw and Arneson encourage the public to go to the Third District GOP website at www.3rdGOP.org then print the list of questions and ask any one of them of Rep. Kind the next time he is at a public event. They further ask that you then write a "Letter to Editor" to your local paper detailing how he answered. After all, the public has the right to know!
